An Advanced Introduction to Palpation Based Acupuncture

Fundamentally informed by Osteopathic Manual Medicine, Japanese Acupuncture Traditions, and European Microsystems, Palpation Based Acupuncture places paramount importance on skilled, diagnostic, therapeutic touch as the centerpiece of powerful and effective clinical medicine.

Through seeing, thinking, knowing, listening hands, the body’s somatic landscape becomes knowable to the attentive practitioner. A hallmark of palpation based medicine, this tactile approach provides:

• Direct touch-based perception of the body’s fundamental root imbalances

• The location of primary structural restrictions found throughout the body that degrade its function

• The most effective manual and needle techniques, based on the body’s palpatory response to treatment

• A variety of palpatory feedback mechanisms that determine treatment efficacy in real time, allowing the practitioner to evaluate progress and iterate accordingly during the office visit.

Join us for an in-depth, hands-on, practice-centered training that explores the rich and multilayered world of skilled touch and Palpation Based Acupuncture.

Topics to be introduced and developed include:

​

• Finding the Live point, the most effective treatment point location for your patient during the moment of treatment

• The use of texture, temperature, moisture levels, and tissue density to precisely locate effective treatment points

• Tap location to accurately identify effective treatment points and further refine precision point location

• Channel Listening as a method to identify effective channels and treatment points

• Global Listening and Local Listening techniques to identify and locate key restrictions and adhesions throughout the body

• Micro or Point Listening to identify the most effective angles, trajectories, and stacked trajectories for needling live points

• Tidal Phenomena to guide needle manipulation, globally evaluate treatment effectiveness, and further locate key restrictions

• A series of palpation-based root treatments and reflection zone releases that, when used effectively, can fundamentally benefit and shift a patient’s state of health and well-being

At the completion of this training, participants will have been introduced to a powerful, palpation-based toolkit that can be applied to any acupuncture needling style. Through numerous practice sessions, participants’ sense of diagnostic and therapeutic touch will be significantly refined, and we will lay the foundation for ongoing palpatory development over time.
